Mumbai Chopstix is located on bustling Newbury Street. It has a patio to the front and takes up the two lower floors of a narrow brownstone. The décor inside is modern Asian.
The menu contains Chinese-Indian classics and ‘Hakka’ style or Indian street food style. The meats are mostly battered and fried, and always served in a flavorful curry or fresh chili sauce. For those of you wondering, there are no familiar Indian dishes on the menu; here you will find a hybrid form of Indian and Chinese street food.
One of their most popular dishes is Lachew Cauliflower ($7), which is battered cauliflower drenched in a delicious chili sauce. I also sampled the Sweet and Sour Pork ($16), in which whole lychees are to be found in the sauce.
The Ginger Lamb ($17) is well named and very tasty with the ginger perfectly complementing the lamb. The Papaya Salad ($6) is a great summer dish with a basil, tamarind and peanut dressing.
The desserts (all at $7) are especially delightful; I greatly enjoyed both the date pancakes and fried banana.
Cocktails such as the Mango Sangria or Sake Mojito are made from sake or wine only as the restaurant doesn't have a liquor license.
