By Rhiannon L. D’Angelo | October 26, 2012

North Conway, NH is not just for ski bunnies and outdoor types. Though the scenic village located in the shadow of Mount Washington offers plenty of ways to enjoy nature and burn calories, there’s certainly no shortage of places to shop, drink and dine year-round.

This family friendly town is also easy on the wallet.   With so many outdoor activities available families can enjoy themselves on any budget, couples can experience luxury and romance without breaking the bank and friends can plan an action packed get-away at any price point. Here, a guide to the places to see and be seen in North Conway.

Sleep

The family-owned Lobster Trap Restaurant has been a North Conway mainstay for decades

Spend the night in a Cave, Tree house or Log Cabin at Adventure Suites.   The themed rooms are kid and adult friendly; “The Cave” suite boasts a waterfall shower, tunnel, cave drawings and 5-person grotto (Jacuzzi).   The Red Jacket Resort features gorgeous scenery, and accommodations ranging from townhouses to Jacuzzi rooms and a year-round indoor waterpark that will keep the kids busy for hours.

If you’re traveling sans children, enjoy romance, horseback riding and carriage rides at The Farm by the River Bed and Breakfast. Looking for luxury? Then the White Mountain Hotel is the place for you, with mountain and cliff views, full service dining, a tennis court, heated pool and a championship nine-hole golf course.

Nosh

Indulge in epicurean delights at the 1785 Inn & Restaurant.   Dine on delicacies like lobster flan, venison carpaccio, free range duckling and see the way a Caesar Salad should be made, as it’s prepared tableside.

Head off the beaten path to scenic Westside Road for seafood, steaks and Italian at the family-owned Lobster Trap Restaurant.   Enjoy the Cuccio family’s signature dish - a medley of jumbo shrimp, lobster claws, clams, mussels, scallops, king crab legs and haddock sautéed in lightly seasoned marinara sauce and served over a mound of linguini.

For a laid back bite, check out Hooligans on Kearsage Road.   Sunday breakfast at Peach’s is a local and visitor favorite serving fruit filled French toast, crepes and pancakes.

Imbibe

Grab a latte and browse the art gallery at The Met

Ales and lagers are brewed on-site at the Moat Mountain Smokehouse. You’ll spot the regulars by their personalized beer mugs, stored above the bar for the Moat’s best customers.

Grab a beer and catch the game at Delaney’s. The go-to spot in town features live entertainment, friendly bartenders and just might be the hot spot for meeting that special someone.

In town for a long weekend? Check the karaoke schedule at Up Country – you’re sure to be entertained or who knows, maybe you could be the entertainment.

Shop

Downtown North Conway offers a number of boutiques and specialty shops to keep you shopping ‘til you drop.   Swing in Zeb’s for that old thyme general store feel and an amazing array of products made in New England.   The new to the scene Assets Jean Co. boutique offers designer jeans and apparel worthy of Boston’s Newbury Street.

Take a latte break at the Met Coffeehouse and Art Gallery (known as simply “the Met” by locals) and browse the eclectic art gallery.   Continue past North Conway’s center to Settler’s Green.   The outlet village boasts over thirty big name outlets including J.Crew, Brooks Brothers and Banana Republic.

Spoil your furry friends at For Your Paws Only with earth friendly toys and peanut butter dipped treats from their pet bakery.

Beyond Dinner and Drinks

Hop on the Conway Scenic Railroad at the historic train station
