Water, Water Everywhere
Inland Maine holds many hidden treasures.
By Sheila Grant
When people "from away" think of Maine, it is the rocky coastline that comes to mind, or perhaps the majesty of Mount Katahdin. Folks who never venture further up the turnpike are missing out on some of the most scenic country Vacationland has to offer. Piscataquis County, about a three-hour drive north of Kittery, is rich with nature-based tourism treasures - scenic mountain vistas, miles of hiking trails and relatively unspoiled forests as far as the eye can see. And water - Piscataquis County has lots of water.
